I Die for Spring 2010 RTW

If only I had been there. No, I probably would have cried. From Valentino's pasty colored, gauzy dresses (mainly minis, some maxis!) to Marc by Marc Jacob's and Custo Barcelona's brights, it's clear that this spring will be a big mix and match free-for-all. Whereas last season was all about the 80's, this season will definitely be more about channeling your inner 90's child (bringin' back the crop top!), working with gauzy fabrics and translucent fabrics (don't get too sheer on us like Erin Fetherston's black mesh shirt, please!), and contrasts (we're talking razor sharp edges over flowy layers, simple materials with harsh cutouts, and neon against neutrals). While at work yesterday, my coworker was doing a "trend board" and she definitely got me hooked on stalking the shows. I've discovered some of my favorites (Erin Fetherston -- minus the see through shirt, Celine, Cynthia Rowley, Phillip Lim, Prabal Gurung, etc.) and have picked out a few trends that I, personally, loved.

#1. I'm loving the contrast of the sharp edges against the flowy fabrics. As always, I'm feeling boyfriend blazers over femme pieces with pearls and the soft, victorian era look. Details include structured bags (to tie the manliness of the blazer in with the girliness of the rest of the look), pearls, brooches, and oxfords (definitely oxfords!).
#2. Definitely feeling the bondage effect. Take it intense with bondage cutouts, or stay simple with the band-aid dresses that have been all the rage. Speaking of cutouts...
#3. Cutouts! Loving the idea of the cutout. Simple, sexy, understated. Not to be too overdone with too much translucence...always leave some things (like your nipples) up to other people's imaginations.
#4. Collarbones and one-shoulder pieces. Always a good thing to show your collarbones and sternum. I really do believe that there is nothing sexier than your sternum. It's like a guy's happy trail...except daintier.

The trend that I am NOT feeling is the booty shorts. Short-shorts are one thing, but shorts that look like underwear do not scream high fashion to me. Maybe it's just me.

Anyway, that's about all for now. If I were you, I would definitely check out the fashion section at nymag.com for complete coverage of the shows.

Shoutout to Coco for getting me hooked. I now have another way you procrastinate.

much love.

Lazy Days and November Haze

Why are the leaves still on the trees? I ask myself this question every year because I always forget when they fell off the trees the year before.

Half today. Nice. Definitely going to take that nap I've been meaning to take for the past week and a half. Luckily parents can't go to conferences because they're in Paris. What would teachers say? "We wrote those nice things on Sarah's progress reports, but...she has started falling asleep in class. What gives?" Well, dearest teachers, perhaps you should all cut back on the work so I can bump up the hours of sleep I get. Nah, it's not the amount of work. We all know that I could go to bed at 11 every night if I didn't have a social life (and by social life I mean nightly crises.)

Today's misty weather and chill has made me realize two things:
1. I want to go skiing (so I'll have to request off from work), and;
2. I need a cup of tea. stat. or chocolate chip pancakes, but tea has no calories.

Out to get vanilla yogurt soon, I think it's time for those no pudge fudge brownies that I've been meaning to make for quite some time now...
Oh and a creative assignment piece (lucky for me I like Shakespearean language), a tanach assignment (that I'm actually a little excited for -- I like the flood story), and college apps. Maybe I'll just edit some. and I'll e-mail Columbia about an ID because I'm going to need that sooner or later.

Glad everyone now knows my to do list.

If you're interested, check out Mayer Hawthorne. It's pretty cool '60's /'70's feel, with a modern beat. Honestly though, he could pass for Smokey Robinson himself.

much love.
